Should Designers Write Code?

In the past few months, I've met with dozens of designers to better understand their workflow and their pain points. One of the interesting issues that has come up is the question of just what a web designer does, and what skils they need to have. At one extreme is the graphic designer who works in Photoshop and Illustrator to create web page mock-ups. They then hand these off to someone else who builds the web site. At the other extreme is the coder who works in HTML and JavaScript from the start, and the design evolves in code.

Dropping IE6 Support for Admin Stuff

For now, we have dropped support for Internet Explorer 6 for site admins. We have some pretty complex JS stuff to make all the in-place editing and so forth work, and IE6 has (surprise!) been especially troublesome. So, at least for the moment, IE6 is not supported for in-place editing. Going forward, unless we hear loud cries of anguish from customers, we'll be dropping IE6 support for all admin functions.

New Release: Toolbar Fixes, Performance Improvements, Thumbnail Generation

Earlier this week, we deployed a new version of the Webvanta system that fixes the problem many of you have experienced with the toolbar not appearing unless you manually clear the caches. We've also made a number of performance improvements and added the ability to automatically generate thumbnails when you upload images.
